Brussels Comics and Culture attracts on a different research abroad experience

Brussels might be popular as the capital of NATO and the European Union, but the Miami University students would have the scope to see it in a dissimilar light this January. Comics and Culture in Brussels is a popular study abroad event which aims on the history of the graphic novels of the country.

Located south of Netherlands, west of Germany, Luxembourg, and north of France, Belgium is the home of popular comics like The Smurfs and The Adventures of Tintin both of which are more than popular even today. The effects of all these comics have diffused not just Belgian society, but also that of the Western Europe itself, as well as the 2 courses put up by the study abroad event target to teach how that came to be.

According to reports, Mark McKinney, the Miami professor leading the tour, said that Comics and Culture in Belgium is a look at Belgian culture through comics. Belgian comics are an important cultural phenomenon there, and an important industry.

Along with Comic Book Route, a trail demonstrating more than fifty murals lionizing comics as well as their creators, the Belgium capital boasts the Belgian Comic Strip Center and the Royal Museum of Fine Arts. The students would get the scope to see these cultural touchstones in the event abroad. The other course is European Graphic Novel and it would look outside Belgium for the cultural impact and traits of the genre.
